A train station in eastern Ukraine's Donbas region was hit by a Russian missile attack, killing more than 50 people, including five children, and the United States and Russia argued over it.

According to foreign media reports such as CNN and AFP on the 8th (local time), the Kramatorsk train station in Donbas, eastern Ukraine, quickly became chaotic due to the Tochika-U short-range ballistic missile fired by the Russian military.

Ukrainian authorities and the state-run railway company said at least 50 people have been killed and 300 injured so far. At that time, about 4,000 residents who were trying to evacuate by train gathered, and it is known to be large in history.

After the attack, casualties collapsed or their belongings were scattered along the road. In addition, the missile debris collected was reportedly written in Russian, "For our children."

Ukrainian authorities strongly criticized Russia for indiscriminately attacking civilians even though there were no Ukrainian troops near the train station at the time of the attack. President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a briefing, "There is no limit to the "evil" they commit. If we don't punish them, they won't stop, the international community said.

The U.S., which recently announced "additional sanctions against Russia" and denounced the Russian attack as a "war crime," also joined it. "This is a Russian attack," Defense Ministry spokesman John Kirby said in a briefing. "Our assessment is that they used short-range ballistic missiles to carry it out." Deputy State Department spokesman Zulina Porter also called it "the latest atrocity" and said, "It shows why Russia cannot stay on the U.N. Human Rights Council."

However, the Russian side countered that it was a "self-made drama" committed by the Ukrainian government. "Ukrainian authorities have tried to prevent mass evacuation of residents and use them as 'human shields' to defend their military bases," a Russian defense official said in a statement. He also dismissed the "Tochka-U tactical missile" found near the station as being used only by Ukrainian troops.

Meanwhile, according to Ukrainian authorities, at least 300 civilian bodies were reportedly killed in Bucha, Irpin, Dimerca and Mariupol, which were attacked by Russian troops.
